“Truncating your flaws to rise above all is what distinguishes you from the crowd.”
To most of us getting into SRCC was a formidable feat but for personalities like
Akshay Jain it was a stepping stone to touch the skies.
When people schmoozed around in the college this man burnt the midnight oil and strived to success. Let us see how his perseverance and meticulous efforts made him stand out of the crowd.
In a short conversation with Akshay Jain, Angana and Mayur tried to unveil the secrets behind his success.
Q1. “IPCC rank-1”, what was your reaction when you first saw the result? Were you expecting a rank and that too first?
Ans. Well I was expecting a good rank but when Mr. Subodh Agrawal, the president of ICAI called and congratulated me it was unbelievable for me. I thought someone was playing a prank on me. I checked about his credentials and yes it was true I was the topper of IPCC exam and it was a moment of joy for me. I hugged my dad as a token of gratitude for the love and faith that he had bestowed upon me.
Q2. When did you decide that that you want to go for chartered accountancy course?
Ans. I was passionate about CA since 11th grade when I opted for commerce stream. I gave CPT after 12th grade and I was quite determined to go ahead with it if I weren’t able to get into SRCC. I dropped the idea of doing CA when I joined SRCC because I thought it was compulsory to attend the college regularly. But when I saw most of my peers preparing for CA I decided to pursue it further.
Q3. College, coaching and self-study consumed most of your time so did it affect your social life?
Ans. Yes, it did affect my social life to some extent as I wasn’t able to spend much time with my friends but I was never a bookworm so my social life was not that affected though sometimes my hectic schedule didn’t give me the time to call my parents as I was staying at my grandma’s place.
Q4. What are your future plans? Will you be sitting for the placements?
Ans. No, my main motive is to complete CA and then I’ll be giving IAS exam because my father has always dreamt about it. So I would like to fulfill his wish.
Q5. What is your reaction when someone calls you a bookworm?
Ans. Just because I am IPCC topper people might think that I would be a bookworm. Well I am not affected with such comments. I am in a happy space so I don’t care about what people think about me.
Q6. Was it difficult to manage IPCC with B.Com (H)?
Ans. Almost all the subjects of B.Com (H) are covered in the IPCC course structure. I went for the coachings in the third semester and it wasn’t difficult for me at all. In fact now graduation is so easy for me because I have already acquired in-depth knowledge of all the subjects.
Q7. How would you define your success journey in one sentence?
Ans. I would say optimistic attitude is the key to my success.
Q8.From where did you take your coaching?
Ans. I took coaching for only two subjects: cost and financial management from Ashish Kalra sir and taxation from M.K. Gupta sir.
Q9. Was the coaching upto your expectation?
Ans. Yes, M.K. Gupta sir is a brilliant tutor. You don’t need to study at home, his notes are sufficient for conceptual clarity. Ashish Kalra sir is a fun loving teacher. He creates an environment conducive for studying.
Q10. Whom would you like to thank for your success?
Ans. I would like to thank my father for his moral support.
Q11. What message would you like to convey to your juniors?
Ans. CA has a very vast syllabus. You cannot mug up things and give the examination since papers are analytical in nature. So it is essential to have concept clarity. You should plan things and always stay positive. Just keep deriving motivation from things around you.
His mantra in life is “Plan your work and work your plan.” We hope that you were able to draw inspiration from him!!!!
