Q1: How do you feel about securing All India Ranks twice?
A1: I feel on the top of the world. As a student what else do you want, when you are studying in the best commerce college and then securing All India Ranks in CA as well as CS. I feel very happy when people like you see me as a source of inspiration; it feels great that all my teachers, my parents and my friends are proud of me and cite my example to motivate others.
Q2: What was your parents’ reaction on knowing that you secured All India ranks?
A2: When the result was declared, I was not with my parents. I called my father up and told him that I had secured All India Rank 13 in IPCC. He was very happy. It was pretty unexpected for us, because I felt that somehow I could have performed better! The CS rank was unexpected, too! It is only because of CA that I was able to secure a rank in CS.
Q3: Even as you were preparing for CA, you continued to excel academically in University exams. Did you never feel the pressure to make it work? How did you devote your best to both the schedules at the same time?
A3: In the beginning there was a lot of pressure. As a small town boy, when I came to Delhi for the first time, it was very difficult for me to settle here, to face competition from other students who already had more exposure and experience right from school. In the first semester itself in December I started my evening coaching with college classes ; my schedule was really very hectic- from 8:40am -1:15 pm, I attended my college classes and then 2:00-8:30pm coaching and I used to reach the hostel at 9o’clock. Gradually, I was able to cope up and became habituated to it. All my friends, teachers and parents always supported me and were quite hopeful and this was the best source of motivation!
Q4: Do you have any secret recipe or formula for balancing everything together- managing academics, handling coaching, working as the Secretary in a society (CMS)? With so much on your platter, how did you prioritise and manage your time?
A4: There’s no such secret recipe. You need to remember only two things FOCUS and SELF BELIEF. If you are focused, you can achieve anything in your life and talking about academics, if you are studying for CA or CS, graduation(B.Com(H)) becomes very easy because most of the subjects are common. And while studying for IPCC you study them in more detail and hence preparing for graduation is not a big task . And talking about the society, I have got a good team of seniors and hard working juniors. It was not a great task. And if you are passionate about some things, things move on their own.
Q5: Did you plan to prepare for both CA and CS while opting for Commerce in class 11th itself?
A5: Yes! Right from 10th CA was my aim. I had never expected S.R.C.C. When I passed my 10th I thought I should try for S.R.C.C but during my two years of higher secondary education, I never thought I could reach S.R.C.C so easily. So at that time I was more prepared for correspondence graduation and CA but after getting my 12th result I decided that I should surely join S.R.C.C and do CA simultaneously.
Q6: What plans do you have for the future? What is the dream you are working on?
A6: I am currently placed as an article in Ernst and Young and I will be continuing with it. I am hoping for a bright future in CA, my dream is to make my parents happy and proud of me. I want to fulfil all their dreams and expectations.
Q7: Did you take off campus or on campus placement?
A7: I took on campus placements. E.Y comes twice on campus- once it comes for job and secondly it comes for articleship.
Q8: How would you describe your college life?
A8: This period of three years is an unforgettable part of my life. College has taught me a lot of important lessons. I have made friends who are more than just friends for me. All the parties, fun and classes can never be forgotten. We are studying from the best teachers of India and authors from whom all the university students want to study .We work hard and we party harder, we have the best fest of D.U and surely the best college .We have college fests entirely for two months and I have spent 3 years of my life in the S.R.C.C hostel which is the best part. Hostel is just like a second home to me and I am really going to miss my hostel more than my college. There, I have got many friends, who are like brothers to me .Whenever I am stuck in any problem or any sorrow or want to share any happiness or any achievements, they are always there for me for sharing each and every thing. It obviously feels sad when the best part of your life is going to get over and I don’t know when we are all going to meet again but life has to move on and I accept it.
Q9: What do you prefer to do in your leisure time?
A9: I like to travel a lot, I like to hang out with my friends and party. I am a big foodie; I love to eat a lot and like to try out food from different places and I also love to sleep.
Q10: What suggestions do you have for juniors?
A10: You have a lot of time to prepare. Do plan well and prepare a manageable time table and be clear with all your concepts because conceptual study is a must for IPCC.
SR-ites have a lot of people to take inspiration from. There are various rank holders in SRCC. You should take guidance from all of them and you should start preparing accordingly.
The main thing is you should be clear with what you want to do after graduation. But if you are confused about your career then there is a problem and then people start panicking. After graduation, you might be going for either
, CFA or Actuarial or any other course. Whatever you do, make up your mind well in time. You have one or two more years, so, start preparing, plan your studies accordingly and you will be able to achieve it.
Be clear with the way you want to proceed in your life no matter what hurdles come, you can overcome them.
